About the Teenage Cancer Trust
Teenage Cancer Trust was established in 1990 to improve the quality of life and chances of survival for young people with cancer. We know that young people have a much better chance in their fight against cancer if they are treated by teenage cancer experts, in an environment tailored to their needs. In order to provide this we fund specialist units in NHS hospitals, and expert front-line staff. As a charity we rely entirely on voluntary donations.
All funds raised from Blues Camp UK 2011 will support a new Teenage Cancer Trust unit at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Surrey. Due to open in October 2011 this will be the first of its kind in the South East, and will provide essential support to hundreds of young people with cancer in Kent and across the South East, and their families. The total cost of the project to Teenage Cancer Trust is £3million and with no government funding, we are very grateful of your support.
Currently, many teenagers who are treated for cancer in the South East never meet another patient their own age. They can feel scared and isolated during such a challenging time in their lives. The psychological impact can be enormous. Being treated in an age appropriate environment is hugely beneficial. It can make a significant difference to the outcome of their treatment.
